" No degree of craftmanship is able to pay true homage to the variance of form, delicacy of shape and texture in Nature. All one can do, is attempt to extract an essence, a pattern, a shape, or a line, that, perhaps, has some of the qualities of Nature’s original. And so, overwhelmed by Nature, and particularly in love with Nature in Africa, I decided to utilise the original forms, and give them a new context. I gathered elements from my garden; from distant shores, and beautiful farms, both cultivated and wild; from walks in the veldt and the streets of my suburb, and from the benevolent florist who frequently sees me admiring the stripped leaves and cut stems lying on her shop floor.
